In an article for The American Spectator, R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. writes that then-Governor Clinton knew about and encouraged smuggling of drugs and guns into Arkansas from Central America (R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr., "The Arkansas Drug Shuttle," The American Spectator, August 1995, p. 16-18).
Tyrrell writes that Clinton's friend State Trooper L.D. Brown went on Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) flights with drug trafficker Barry Seal in 1984. The Justice Department estimates that Seal smuggled between $3 and $5 billion in drugs into the U.S. before his murder by Colombians in 1986. At the time of the flights, Brown was in the course of applying to the CIA for a job. Brown told Tyrrell that the first time he went on one of the flights, they dropped M-16s for the Contras in exchange for cash and mysterious duffel bags.
After the second flight, Brown said Seal showed him a kilogram of cocaine in one of the duffel bags. According to Brown's brother, Brown was very upset that he had participated in drug flights. Brown believes that the missions were initiated by Clinton and supported by an Arkansas bond dealer who was a major contributor to Clinton's political campaigns, but no evidence was cited that supports the claim.
After a string of media attention about Clinton's private life and the Whitewater matter, Brown decided to tell what he knew about the flights from Mena, Arkansas to Central America. Another State Trooper, Larry Patterson, has also said in a sworn statement that Clinton had conversations in which he indicated that drugs and guns were being run through Mena.
[From 1986 to 1988, I was involved in the Congressional investigation of Barry Seal's flights. I eagerly read this article looking for information about Clinton's role in Seal's drug smuggling. The article didn't provide any. This shabby journalism is rife with innuendo. Not a single fact is presented showing Clinton knew about drugs in these flights before or after they occurred. Se desmorona el culto del Calentamiento Global antropogénico.
Que buena coincidencia, justo cuando Milenio Diario publicó el siguiente fascículo de una serie propagandística por parte de PEMEX acerca del "Cambio Climático", se dio a conocer un estudio ruso y el mismo Carlos Marín editorializó dando su aval.
En el estudio se informa lo mismo que los investigadores no adoctrinados han dicho siempre: Cambios Climáticos son normales y cíclicos.
Pero la elite bancaria global sensacionaliza sobre el "Cambio climático" para llevarse dinero a través de impuestos verdes, huellas de agua y carbono; en varios países también lo inculcan debido a los miles de empleos creados para burócratas verdes.

La agencia EFE reporta que, convencido de que el Ártico no es únicamente “la cocina del clima” sino el lugar más sensible, donde se detectan mejor las consecuencias de los cambios climáticos, el académico Nikolái Dobretsov, presidente del Congreso de Ciencias Naturales de la prestigiada Academia de Ciencias de Rusia, afirma que el dichoso calentamiento global continuo con que se nos viene asustando es, y qué gusto, “un mito”.
El mínimo de masa de los hielos árticos, argumenta, se registró en 2007; pero entre 2008 y 2011, “y por lo que parece en 2012”, el hielo ha vuelto a crecer.
Los inviernos allí “son más fríos”, advierte, y precisamente por eso “ya es obvio que el calentamiento global es un mito”.
Ya chole, pues, de la patraña del inminente fin del mundo con que muchos vividores del cuento asustan a incautos (¿qué tal La verdad incómoda que le significó un Premio Nobel a Al Gore?).

Calentamiento global continuo “es un mito”: científicos rusos
Científicos rusos aseguran que los ciclos de crecimiento y decrecimiento de los hielos del Ártico demuestran que el calentamiento global continuo “es un mito” y a los ciclos climáticos actuales les seguirá una etapa de enfriamiento global del planeta hacia finales de este siglo.
Recientes estudios han observado la alternancia de ciclos de crecimiento y disminución en la masa de hielo del Ártico, aseguró ayer en Novosibirsk, Rusia, el académico Nikolái Dobretsov, presidente de la Junta Científica de Ciencias Naturales de la Academia de Ciencias rusa.
“El mínimo de los hielos se registró en 2007. Entre 2008 y 2011, y por lo que parece en 2012, el hielo ha vuelto a crecer. Los inviernos en el Ártico son cada vez más fríos. Es obvio que el calentamiento global continuo es un mito”, dijo Dobretsov en una rueda de prensa, citado por la agencia Interfax.
Las investigaciones realizadas por los científicos rusos indican que la masa de hielo en el Ártico crece y decrece cíclicamente, por lo que es natural que a las fases de calentamiento seguirán otras etapas de enfriamiento.
“Hacia finales del siglo empezará un enfriamiento global y no un calentamiento, son los últimos pronósticos”, aseguró el científico ruso.
Dobretsov subrayó que para poder precisar las previsiones es necesario desarrollar una compleja red de estaciones observadoras en la región del Ártico.
“El Ártico no es sólo la ‘cocina del clima’, sino el lugar más sensible, el que más sufrirá las consecuencias ya sea de un enfriamiento o un calentamiento global”, explicó.
Conferencia en Londres
Sin embargo, alrededor de 2 mil 800 expertos de varios países, que se reúnen desde ayer en Londres en la conferencia Planet Under Pressure (El planeta bajo presión), aseguran que es necesario trazar las líneas básicas de un pacto global contra el cambio climático.
Este grupo de expertos —científicos, políticos y empresarios— participarán en sesiones de debate para fijar una postura común de cara a la conferencia de las Naciones Unidas Río+20 sobre el cambio climático que será en junio en Río de Janeiro.
En la jornada inicial se analizó la situación actual del planeta y los conferenciantes pidieron a la comunidad internacional tomar acciones inmediatas.
“Esta década es crítica para el futuro del planeta. Si no revertimos pronto el calentamiento global no habrá vuelta atrás”, dijo Will Steffen, director del Instituto del Cambio Climático de la Universidad Nacional de Australia.
Aunque la directora del Instituto del Medio Ambiente de la Universidad de Arizona, Diana Liverman, destacó que “el crecimiento demográfico se está frenando, la cantidad de energía que se necesita para cada unidad de producción cada vez es menor y la proliferación de la agricultura intensiva ha provocado que la superficie forestal vuelva a ganar terreno”, explicó.
► Proponen más osos polares en zoológicos
Un grupo de ambientalistas, investigadores y legisladores de Estados Unidos propone aumentar el número de osos polares en los zoológicos de ese país para proteger a la especie amenazada por el calentamiento global, informó The Washington Post.
Los ambientalistas señalaron que las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero aceleran el derretimiento de los hielos y el hielo del Ártico puede desaparecer en 2030.
Dijeron que probablemente se registre una disminución de osos polares. La progresiva desaparición de los hielos ya ha empujado a estos animales lejos del mar, donde persiste el hielo, pero hay menos peces.
“En ambos casos, se enfrentan a la falta de alimentos”, dijo Steven C. Amstrup, científico que lidera la organización Polar Bears International que propone aumentar las poblaciones en los zoológicos.
La idea es aumentar la población a través de la inseminación artificial y otros métodos de reproducción asistida.
Jeffrey Bonner, presidente del Zoo de St. Louis, Missouri, es uno de los defensores del proyecto. Este parque ya ha desarrollado, por 20 millones de dólares, una reconstrucción del hábitat natural de los osos polares. (AFP/Washington)

Idiota Luis González de Alba propone suicidarnos para "salvar al planeta"
Lo más preciado que tenemos es la vida y ecofascistas que siguen el juego de la mafia banquera internacional, que bajo el pretexto de una falsa emergencia global pretenden gravar toda actividad humana por medio de Huellas de Carbono y Huellas de Agua, para solo llenarse los bolsillos aún más de dinero, vociferan a los cuatro vientos que somos malignos, que hay que acabar con la humanidad. Lanzan campañas como esta donde adoctrinan a niños sobre que hay que matar a gente que no use transporte público de manera voluntaria:

Carajo en pláticas con familiares y amigos, todo mundo expresa cosas como que: "aunque me quede en la calle pero yo a un hijo lo salvo" Y si mañana le diera Cáncer a Héctor Bonilla o "Lolita" Ayala, ellos serían los primeros en irse a Houston, Cuba para hacer todo lo posible en lograr una cura y no irse a morir a casa como le dicen a cualquier "prole" en el Seguro Social o en hospitales de Pemex.
Y hoy Luis González de Alba en su columna de Milenio con mucha naturalidad propone que nos suicidemos "Para Salvar al Planeta", que "ya somos muchos."
Este mismo personaje sería el primero en llamar a un linchamiento si alguien llamase a tratar psicológicamente a los homosexuales (él lo es), por ejemplo, para "salvar la moral".

Bélgica y Holanda ya venden kits de suicidio indoloro y deberíamos seguir ese ejemplo civilizado: ya somos muchos y estamos acabando con el planeta: los elefantes topan con bardas electrificadas para defensa de los africanos que cultivan lechugas. En Guadalajara, al ya ralo bosque La Primavera, alguna vez lugar para hacer día de campo, se le construyó la villa panamericana y hoy la disputa es derrumbarla o venderla. En otras regiones, territorios de cacería del puma, ya tenemos casas de campo y habrá pumas muertos cuando un padre de familia se tope con uno que, hambriento, ronde por los contenedores de basura.

Endor System Una princesa de marte
Una obra maestra de la literatura que cambió el destino de muchas personas.
Isaac Asimov, George Lucas, Ray Bradbury, Carl Sagan, James Cameron, Arthur C. Clarke y Steven Spielberg entre tantos otros supieron lo que querían hacer en sus vidas luego de descubrir este libro.
“Una Princesa de Marte” es una de las obras más importantes en la historia de la literatura norteamericana y sobre todo en el género de la ciencia ficción.
Son esas clase de historias que marcan una bisagra en el arte y partir de su publicación nada vuelve a ser lo mismo.
Sin embargo cuando el relato John Carter hizo su debut en la revista All Story, en julio de 1911, con el título “Bajo las lunas de Marte”, los intelectuales del momento consideraron a esta historia como una pieza de literatura barata.
Hoy la cosas cambiaron por completo y no existe un escritor importante en el mundo que no considere a Edgar Rice Burroughs como uno de los grandes y más creativos maestros del género de aventuras que dominaba el manejo del suspenso como los dioses.
Por estos días sólo un ignorante podría calificar a los libros de Burroughs como literatura barata.
Ahora bien, pese a que “Una Princesa de Marte” es un libro emblemático dentro de la ciencia ficción e influenció a muchas generaciones de artistas la realidad es que desde hace muchas décadas la gran mayoría de la gente desconoce por completo las historias de John Carter.
La gran paradoja de este tema es que el principal responsable del olvido en el que quedó estancado el personaje fue el propio Burroughs.
Lo que pasó fue que tres meses después de publicar esta novela el autor presentó al público la historia de un pibe cuyos padres morían en una selva y terminaba siendo criado por una tribu de monos.
Después conocía a una chica llamada Jane Porter y se convertía en el gran señor de la jungla.
El fenómeno popular que se produjo con la aparición de Tarzán fue tan grande en todo el mundo que opacó por completó a los libros de John Carter.
Burroughs escribió ocho novelas más dentro de la saga de Marte, pero ninguno pudo alcanzar la notoriedad de los relatos de Tarzán que resultaron más populares.
Lo loco de todo esto es que la saga de John Carter, sin embargo, influenció muchísimas historias queridas por el público, aunque se lugar en la literatura se limitó a recibir un estatus de culto.
Es decir, los fans del género por lo general estaban al tanto del personaje, pero a nivel popular nunca logró tener la misma notoriedad de Tarzán.
Por eso también es muy interesante leer esta novela en la actualidad, ya que te vas a sorprender con los personajes, mundos y conflictos que este hombre creó en 1911 y después viste infinidades de veces en el cine.
Por ejemplo, casi 70 años antes que los Jedis hicieran su aparición en la pantalla grande los Jed, que era el nombre con el que se conocía a los guerreros de alto rango en Marte, lideraban batallas entre las distintas razas de ese planeta.
En general los nombres de las razas aliénigenas en la saga de Lucas remiten bastante a los personajes de esta propuesta.
El mundo de Eternia en los dibujos animados de He-Man que presentaba una loca fusión entre lo medieval y lo futurista también estuvo claramente inspirado por la ambientación que le dio Burroughs a este libro.
No va a faltar seguramente, con el estreno de la adaptación cinematográfica de Disney el que diga que la trama es un robo a Avatar, cuando en realidad es todo lo contrario. El propio James Cameron reconoció que la raíz del conflicto de su película estuvo influenciada por John Carter.
La gran diferencia es que Burroughs es mejor escritor y sabía desarrollar bien los conceptos que proponía.
John Carter es un soldado de Virginia que participó de la Guerra Civil de los Estados Unidos. Un día sale de caza con un amigo y los hombres resultan atacados por indios.
Carter logra refugiarse en una cueva y cuando se despierta aparece en otro planeta. Al poco tiempo descubre que en ese lugar tiene habilidades especiales (un claro precursor del concepto del superhéroe) y puede dar saltos enormes de varios metros.
En los primeros cómics de Superman, el personaje no volaba, sino que saltaba como Carter y siempre me pregunté si los creadores del Hombre de Acero tomaron esa idea del libro de Burroughs que es muy similar, aunque nunca lo pude confirmar.
Una Princesa de Marte es un libro de iniciación dentro de esta saga, donde su autor se dedica a introducirnos en el mundo de Barsoon, que más tarde se desarrollara con distintos conflictos.
En este caso conocemos a Carter y la gran protagonista femenina que es la princesa Deja Thoris, hija del gran monarca de Helium que es tomada prisionera por los sanguinario marcianos verdes de la tribu de Thark, que como los Centraedi de Robotech, no conocen otra cosa que la violencia y la muerte.
Lo más groso de la saga Carter, es que a diferencia de la serie de Tarzán, Burroughs trabaja con personajes femeninos sumamente fuertes y atractivos.
Deja Thoris tiene mucho más carácter que Jane Porter y participa con más presencia de las aventuras de Carter. También esta Sola, una de las marcianas verdes, que es uno de los pocos seres de esa raza que conoce la compasión y tiene una historia personal muy interesante y dramática.
Cuando la novela se publicó por primera vez la subtrama de Sola fue eliminada porque los editores querían que el relato se concentrara más en la acción, pero en ediciones posteriores restablecieron el capítulo que aborda este tema y terminaron por enriquecer la novela.
Una Princesa de Marte es genial también por la manera en que Burroughs te absorve en el mundo loco que creó. Es importante recordar que en 1911 cuando escribió este libro él no tenían muchas referencias sobre las que inspirarse y toda esas descripciones que hace de los monstruos, criaturas loquísimas y naves espaciales que describe salieron de su imaginación.
Comparado con las cosas que se vienen después en realidad este es el tomo más flojo de la serie. A partir del segundo libro “Dioses de Marte” las cosas se ponen intensas y la historia va mejorando con cada entrega.
Un aspecto interesante de esta novela es que los personajes te van sorprendiendo a lo largo de la trama. Los que parecían villanos después resultan que no los son tanto y los supuestos pacifistas de otros reinos tienen otros intereses escondidos.
Pasaron 100 años de la publicación original de este libro y hoy John Carter sigue siendo tan apasionante como lo fue para las personas que lo descubrieron por primera vez en 1911.
En la década del ´70 Marvel resucitó a Carter con una muy buena serie de cómics, que expandió los hechos de esta novela, pero esa es otra historia que abordaré más adelante.

SEÚL.- El especialista surcoreano en clonación Hwang Woo Suk firmó hoy en Seúl un acuerdo con un representante de la universidad federal del noreste, en la república rusa de Sajá (Yakutia) para la clonación de un mamut, informó un portavoz del proyecto en la capital surcoreana.
Para ello, está previsto que se trasladen desde Rusia restos del tejido de un ejemplar de mamut a Corea del Sur, añadió el portavoz de la fundación Sooam Biotech Research de Hwang.
Los investigadores planean introducir núcleos celulares de los tejidos de esta especie extinta en óvulos de elefante indio. Estos óvulos se implantarán entonces en una hembra de elefante que lleve en su vientre el embrión.
En virtud del acuerdo, la fundación Sooam compartirá su conocimiento tecnológico con la universidad rusa a cambio de los tejidos de mamut.

ENTERBAY RM-X body review
For starters it doesn't include a neck joint. Then the poseability of the figure is very limited I can't imitate the guards and stances of Bruce Lee. Compared against cheaper figures like Dragon this RM-X body is a dissapointment even more considering the price tag. Then it's very fragile, when I buy a nude figure the first thing I do is to manipulate it, to pose it in several positions, just after a couple of poses both legs came out and one of the hip joints fractured after snapping the leg in again. This RM-X body has zero toy value it's just a statuette.

U.N. leaders consider world tax to fund social protection, services

NEW YORK — Outside the United Nations headquarters, hundreds of people were shouting and waving banners Tuesday that read "China and Russia – No Veto." These people wanted support from the Security Council of the U.N. to oust the President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.
Inside the U.N., another group of civil society leaders demanded a basic level of social security as they promoted a "social protection floor" at a preparatory forum for the Commission on Social Development, which began Feb. 1.
The focus of the forum was "universal access to basic social protection and social services."
"No one should live below a certain income level," stated Milos Koterec, President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. "Everyone should be able to access at least basic health services, primary education, housing, water, sanitation and other essential services."
These services were presented at the forum as basic human rights equal to the rights of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
The money to fund these services may come from a new world tax.
"We will need a modest but long-term way to finance this transformation," stated Jens Wandel, Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Program. "One idea which we could consider is a minimal financial transaction tax (of .005 percent). This will create $40 billion in revenue."
"It is absolutely essential to establish controls on capital movements and financial speculation," said Ambassador Jorge Valero, the current Chairman of the Commission on Social Development. He called for "progressive policies of taxation" that would require "those who earn more to pay more taxes."
Valero's speech to the forum focused on capitalism as the source of the world financial problems.
When asked where she expected the money to provide all needy people with a basic income, healthcare, education and housing would come from, Fatima Rodrigo, one of the presenters at the forum, mentioned the "very small tax of .005 percent."
She added, "There is plenty of money, we just need to stop spending it on militaries and wars."
"Military spending is the problem," claimed Winifred Doherty, chairman of the NGO Committee on Social Development and organizer for the CSD Forum.
"There is no scarcity of resources. Where do we put our resources? Destroying people and the planet," said Doherty.
This movement for a social protection floor is becoming solidly entrenched in the United Nations' agencies and programs. Some U.N. leaders are calling for the SPF to become the new focus for the U.N., when the Millennium Development Goals are finished — after 2015.
"Despite the global exhortations of the United Nations, the most successful development efforts clearly arise from grass-roots initiatives, often at the individual or family level," claims Vincenzina Santoro, an international economist, in a new book on the family and the Millennium Development Goals.
A report by the secretary-general on poverty eradication includes other methods for helping rural farmers increase their profit margin and their ability to be more self-reliant. The report says, "key among these is improving yields by ensuring that farmers have better access to high-yielding crop varieties, fertilizers, credit, markets and rural infrastructure."
Susan Roylance is the International Policy and Social Development Coordinator for the Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society.

Lower than a typical satellite's orbit, higher than where most planes fly, this upper atmosphere jet stream makes a perfect target for a particular kind of scientific experiment: the sounding rocket. Some 35 to 40 feet long, sounding rockets shoot up into the sky for short journeys of eight to ten minutes, allowing scientists to probe difficult-to-reach layers of the atmosphere.
In March, NASA will launch five such rockets in approximately five minutes to study these high-altitude winds and their intimate connection to the complicated electrical current patterns that surround Earth. First noticed in the 1960s, the winds in this jet stream shouldn't be confused with the lower jet stream located around 30,000 feet, through which passenger jets fly and which is reported in weather forecasts. This rocket experiment is designed to gain a better understanding of the high-altitude winds and help scientists better model the electromagnetic regions of space that can damage man-made satellites and disrupt communications systems. The experiment will also help explain how the effects of atmospheric disturbances in one part of the globe can be transported to other parts of the globe in a mere day or two.
The five sounding rockets, known as the Anomalous Transport Rocket Experiment (ATREX), will launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia releasing a chemical tracer into the air. The chemical -- a substance called trimethyl aluminum -- forms milky, white clouds that allow those on the ground to "see" the winds in space and track them with cameras. This rocket experiment is designed to gain a better understanding of the high-altitude winds and help scientists better model the electromagnetic regions of space that can damage man-made satellites and disrupt communications systems. The experiment will also help explain how the effects of atmospheric disturbances in one part of the globe can be transported to other parts of the globe in a mere day or two.
The five sounding rockets, known as the Anomalous Transport Rocket Experiment (ATREX), will launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia releasing a chemical tracer into the air. The chemical -- a substance called trimethyl aluminum -- forms milky, white clouds that allow those on the ground to "see" the winds in space and track them with cameras. In addition, two of the rockets will have instrumented payloads to measure pressure and temperature in the atmosphere.

Draft Mental Health Bill 2011 | Sterilizations at Any Age | Natural Society: ollowing the call by ethicists for after-birth abortions and the press explosion surrounding the ‘Euthanasia Coaster‘, new legislation from Australia is now paving the way for children of any age to consent to sterilization — without parental consent. That’s right, if a psychiatrist determines that a child under the age of 18 years is ‘sufficiently mature’, they will be sterilized without any say from the parents. Again, there is no age minimum, as long as they are ‘mature‘ enough.
The legislation, known as the ‘Draft Mental Health Bill 2011′, also allows for 12-year-olds to consent to psychosurgery and electroshock. You can view the bill for yourself on the Australian Mental Health government website. Written by the Western Australia Mental Health Commission (MHC) and overseen by Mental Health Commissioner and clinical psychologist Mr Eddie Bartnik, objections can still be submitted to Australian parliamentary members in each state until March 9th.

BBC News - Low-lying Pacific islands 'growing not sinking': The islands of Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia are among those which have grown, because of coral debris and sediment.
One of the authors of the study, featured in the magazine the New Scientist, predicts that the islands will still be there in 100 years' time.
However he says it is not clear whether many of them will be inhabitable.
Prognosis 'incorrect'
In recent times, the inhabitants of many low-lying Pacific islands have come to fear their homelands being wiped off the map because of rising sea levels.
But this study of 27 islands over the last 60 years suggests that most have remained stable, while some have actually grown.
Using historical photographs and satellite imaging, the geologists found that 80% of the islands had either remained the same or got larger - in some cases, dramatically so.
They say it is due to the build-up of coral debris and sediment, and to land reclamation.
Associate Professor Paul Kench of Auckland University, who took part in the study, published in the journal Global and Planetary Change, says the islands are not in immediate danger of extinction.
"That rather gloomy prognosis for these nations is incorrect," he said.
"We have now got the evidence to suggest that the physical foundation of these countries will still be there in 100 years, so they perhaps do not need to flee their country."
But although these islands might not be submerged under the waves in the short-term, it does not mean they will be inhabitable in the long-term, and the scientists believe further rises in sea levels pose a significant danger to the livelihoods of people living in Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Federated States of Micronesia.
One scientist in Kiribati said that people should not be lulled into thinking that inundation and coastal erosion were not a major threat.

Hep B Vaccine Damages The Liver It Is Supposed To Protect | GreenMedInfo | Blog entry | Natural Medicine | Alternative Medicine | Integrative Medicine | Consumer Advocacy: Startling new research published in the journal Apoptosisindicates that hepatitis B vaccine, which is designed to prevent Hepatitis B virus-induced damage to the liver, actually causes liver cell destruction.
In the study titled “Hepatitis B vaccine induces apoptotic death in Hepa1-6 cells,” researchers set out to “...establish an in vitro model system amenable to mechanistic investigations of cytotoxicity induced by hepatitis B vaccine, and to investigate the mechanisms of vaccine-induced cell death.”
They found the hepatitis B vaccine induced a “loss of mitochondrial integrity, apoptosis induction, and cell death” in liver cells exposed to a low dose of adjuvanted hepatitis B vaccine. The adjuvant used was aluminum hydroxide, which is increasingly being identified as a contributing cause of autoimmune disease in immunized populations.
The discovery that the hepatitis B vaccine damages the liver (hepatotoxicity) confirms earlier findings (1999) that the vaccine increases the incidence of liver problems in U.S. children less than 6 years old by up to 294% versus unvaccinated controls.
Another study published in the journal Hepatogastroentology in 2002, observed that Hepatitis B vaccination was statistically associated with gastrointestinal reactions including: hepatitis, gastrointestinal disease and liver function test abnormalities in comparison to other vaccine control groups.

The journal’s editor, Prof Julian Savulescu, director of the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, said the article's authors had received death threats since publishing the article. He said those who made abusive and threatening posts about the study were “fanatics opposed to the very values of a liberal society”.
The article, entitled “After-birth abortion: Why should the baby live?”, was written by two of Prof Savulescu’s former associates, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva.
They argued: “The moral status of an infant is equivalent to that of a fetus in the sense that both lack those properties that justify the attribution of a right to life to an individual.”
Rather than being “actual persons”, newborns were “potential persons”. They explained: “Both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a ‘person’ in the sense of ‘subject of a moral right to life’.
