You are confusing the scientific definition of exist with the one we use in ordinary speech. A scientific definition is one that you can use consistently (i.e., rationally).

So let's apply the scientific definition to your 'files' to see if we can say that they exist.

file: a collection of related data or program records...

It is clear that 'a' file is not an object. A tree, a rock, a dog, have shape. 'A' file does not have shape. Therefore, 'a' file is not a noun for the purposes of Science. 'A' file is a concept. You cannot point with your finger to 'a' file any more than you can point with your finger to beauty or justice. We can say that the tree fell, the rock flew, the dog ran. We cannot say that 'the' computer file moved or was archived. Not in Science! This is ordinary speech, inconsistent language.

Hence, your computer file does not meet the minimum criterion of 'exist': it is not even an object.
