John Carpenter formó esta entrañable película que en USA recaudó 13 millones. Este film trata de un feroz alegato contra el consumismo, la televisión, los políticos, las clases adineradas y los medios de comunicación. ¡Esto si que es una crítica y una sátira feroz pero coherente.
En esta ocasión un anónimo empleado de la construcción, descubre que sucede algo extraño entre un grupo de gente. Los va investigando hasta que ve que trafican con... ¿anteojos de sol?

They Live (1988) Part 1
An economic crisis brings unemployed Nada (Roddy Piper) to L.A. in search of work. What he finds instead is that the ruling elite of the world are aliens in disguise, their aim being to keep humans in a state of mindless consumerism. His discovery comes when he dons a pair of special sunglasses made by a resistance group and sees for the first time reality unadorned. Billboards, store signs, magazine covers--all bear subliminal messages to OBEY, to CONSUME, to have NO INDEPENDENT THOUGHT. Money itself says THIS IS YOUR GOD. But worst of all, with these glasses you see which of us are really hideous, bug-eyed aliens. The conceptual breakthrough is hilarious while keeping its roots in darker matters. Although some fault the film for settling into its action plot, the ending has a great payoff. And the direction by John Carpenter is handled with superb workmanlike aplomb.

Un extraño objeto volador se apoderó la noche del miércoles del cielo de Hangzhou, China, en las cercanías del aeropuerto Xiaoshan.
Las autoridades aeroportuarias se vieron obligadas a suspender y desviar algunos vuelos a pistas alternas, al considerar que serían sumamente peligrosas las maniobras que se verían obligados a realizar los pilotos para tener un aterrizaje o despegue exitoso.
Un portavoz del aeropuerto, señaló que alrededor de las 21 horas se interrumpieron los vuelos, porque se detectó en las cercanías la presencia de un OVNI y fue hasta las 22 horas cuando todo volvió a la normalidad.
A pesar de que aún se desconoce el origen del extraño fenómeno, el mismo portavoz señaló, que se están llevando a cabo investigaciones para poder ofrecer mayores detalles acerca de este avistamiento que sólo podía ser percibido a través de equipos especiales.

Científicos de la agencia espacial estadounidense (NASA) creen que encontraron pruebas de que existe vida en Titán, la Luna de Saturno.
Informes de la sonda Cassini confirmaron que existen pruebas de reacciones químicas complejas que algunos científicos interpretaron como el resultado de la respiración de una posible vida exótica aún no conocida, informó el Laboratorio de Propulsión de la NASA.
La clave es que algunas moléculas de hidrógeno y acetileno presentes en la atmósfera del satélite han desaparecido.
"Esta falta de acetileno es importante porque ese producto químico sería probablemente la mejor fuente de energía para una vida basada en el metano en Titán", dijo Chris McKay, astrobiólogo de la NASA y del centro de investigación Ames.
McKay propuso un conjunto de condiciones necesarias para este tipo de vida basado en el metano en Titán en 2005.
Una interpretación de los datos de acetileno es que el hidrocarburo se consume como alimento.
"Sugerimos el consumo de hidrógeno porque es el gas que se podría consumir por un ser vivo en Titan, similar a la forma en que consumimos oxígeno en la Tierra", dijo McKay.
"Si estas señales confirman la presencia de vida, podría ser doblemente excitante porque esto representaría una segunda forma de vida independiente a la basada en el agua, como en la Tierra", dijo.
La NASA acepta que la química inorgánica podría explicar la causa de estas reacciones, pero la hipótesis de que son producto de la respiración de un organismo viviente no se ha desechado del todo.
Por lo que se realizaron dos estudios con los datos recabados por Cassini.
El primero de los dos estudios, que se publicó en la revista Icarus, muestra que el hidrógeno que fluye en abundancia en la atmósfera del planeta desaparece casi por completo cuando llega a la superficie, lo que apunta a la inquietante posibilidad de que esté siendo "respirado" por criaturas vivientes.
El segundo, publicado en el Journal of Geophysical Research, es un detallado "mapa" de los hidrocarburos presentes en la superficie de Titán. Un mapa en el que, de una manera inexplicable, falta el acetileno, un gas que casualmente está considerado como la mejor fuente de alimento y energía para una hipotética forma de vida basada en el metano.
Hasta el momento, la existencia de vida basada en el metano es algo puramente hipotético.
En efecto, los científicos no han encontrado aún nada parecido, a pesar de que aquí, en nuestro planeta, existe un curioso tipo de microbios acuáticos que viven en metano o que lo generan como desecho.
En Titán, donde las temperaturas superan los 180 grados bajo cero, un organismo basado en el metano debería de usar alguna sustancia en estado líquido para llevar a cabo sus procesos vitales.
Aunque esa sustancia no sería el agua, ya que la que existe está en forma de hielo y no podría albergar vida alguna. Lo que reduce la lista de líquidos candidatos a uno sólo, el metano.
Cassini también detectó una clase de moléculas orgánicas que los científicos aún no han sido capaces de identificar, lo que ha llevado a los investigadores a concluir que existe una o varias formas de vida que son directamente responsables de las misteriosas ausencias de elementos químicos sobre la superficie.

Over the course of the last 60 years or so, the world of Ufology has spawned a truly huge number of books: many very good indeed, a not-insignificant number very bad, and a great deal hovering precariously somewhere in between. Just occasionally, however, a title comes along that is truly revolutionary, ground-breaking and - as far as its potential implications are concerned - thought-provoking in the extreme.
For me, personally, Jacque Vallee's Messengers of Deception and John Keel's UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse both fall into that latter category. Albeit in admittedly different ways, Vallee and Keel made equally strong cases for the existence of genuine UFOs in our midst. But, both Messengers and Trojan delivered to the reader two far more explicit messages: (A) UFOs are real; but that doesn't mean they are necessarily extraterrestrial; and (B) the phenomenon is clearly deceptive and manipulative in nature and intent.
Of course, for many of the longstanding (a.k.a. the bloody old) players within Ufology, any talk of deceptive messengers, or of Keel's super-spectrum, is dismissed as mere speculation and not much else. For them, UFOs have to be extraterrestrial. After all, they have upheld such notions and beliefs for decades; and to relegate them to the rubbish-bin is not an option.
Well, I have a few choice words for those people who are so rigidly set in their ways: the extraterrestrial hypothesis is itself entirely speculative and totally lacking in hard evidence. All we really know for certain is that there most assuredly is a genuine UFO phenomenon. But, as for definitive proof of its actual point of origin or origins? Please! There is none. At all. There is merely a lot of data clearly demonstrating the presence of unidentified "others" amongst us.
Vallee and Keel most assuredly and astutely recognized this. They understood that a puzzle which - at first glance - seemed to be defined by the presence of nuts-and-bolts spacecraft and flesh-and-blood aliens in our midst, was far, far stranger than many within Ufology wanted to admit.
And there was someone else who also recognized this ufological factor: Mac Tonnies. Mac was a very good friend of mine; and like all his friends I was shocked to the core when he passed away suddenly and tragically in October 2009, at the age of only 34.

But, I am pleased to say, Mac's latest - and, inevitably, final - piece of work ensures that his memory, legacy and ability to think outside of the conventional ufological box will live on. That work is The Cryptoterrestrials: A Meditation on Indigenous Humanoids and the Aliens Among Us.
Like Vallee and Keel, Mac rightly recognized that UFO encounters could not be dismissed as the ravings of lunatics, the tales of the fantasy-prone, or the lies of those seeking fame and fortune. But, he was also careful not to get sucked into the near-viral mindset that practically screams (take a deep breath): UFOs = alien spaceships piloted by little gray chaps from across the galaxy, who are on a mission to save their dying race by stealing our DNA, eggs and sperm.
Rather, Mac - right up until the time of his death - was chasing down the theory suggesting that the UFOnauts may actually represent the last vestiges of a very ancient race of distinctly terrestrial origins; a race that - tens of thousands of years ago may have ruled our planet, but whose position of power was thrown into overwhelming chaos by two things: (A) the appearance of a "debilitating genetic syndrome" that ravaged their society; and (B) the rising infestation of a violent species that threatened to eclipse - in number - their own society.
They are the Cryptoterrestrials. And that violent species that blusters around like an insane, unruly and spoiled child, and that has done more damage in its short life-time than can ever be truly imagined, is, of course, us.
With their society waning, their health and ability to even successfully reproduce collapsing, and their absolute worst nightmare - the Human Race - becoming the new gang in town, the Cryptoterrestrials followed what was perceived as the only viable option: they quietly retreated into the shadows, into the darkened corners of our world, below the oceans, into the deeper caverns that pepper the planet, and in their own uniquely silent and detached way, set about a new course of action.
That course of action - given that they were in some fashion genetically related to the Human Race - was to eventually resurface; to move amongst us in stealth; to pass themselves off as entities from far-off worlds (as part of a concerted effort to protect and hide their real point of origin); and to use and exploit us - medically - in an attempt to try and inject their waning species with a considerable amount of new blood: ours.
In addition, Mac believed, the Cryptoterrestrials were - and, by definition, still are - subtle-yet-brilliant, cosmic magicians. For them, however, there is no top-hat from which a white-rabbit is pulled. There is no hot babe sliced in half and then miraculously rejoined at the waist. No: their tricks are far more fantastic. As well as deceiving us about their origins, the Cryptoterrestrials have - via, perhaps, the use of advanced hologram-style technology, mind-manipulation and much more - led us to conclude that they have an infinite number of craft, resources and technologies at their disposal.
And that is the trick, the ruse: in actuality, their numbers today may be very small. They may well be staging faked UFO events to try and convince us that they have a veritable armada at their disposal when, perhaps, the exact opposite is the case. And, most important of all, they desperately want us to think of them as visitors from the stars. If their plan to rejuvenate their species is to work, then stealth, subterfuge and camouflage are the essential orders of the day.
Of course, the above all amounts to a theory - just like the ETH. And, Mac's book makes it very clear that he is theorizing, rather than being able to provide the reader with definitive proof for such a scenario. He does, however, offer a logical, and at times powerful, argument in support of the theme of his book.
As for so-called "alien abductions": the clumsy, intrusive means by which ova and sperm are taken by a race of beings we are led to believe are countless years ahead of us is addressed. That the ability of the aliens to wipe out the memories of those they abduct is constantly and regularly overturned by nothing more than simple hypnosis is highlighted. And the unlikely scenario that our DNA would even be compatible, in the first place, with extraterrestrial entities is also firmly dissected. Mac's conclusion: all this points not to the presence of highly-advanced aliens who are thousands of years ahead of us; but to the actions of an ancient Earth-based society whose technology may not be more than a century or so in advance of our current knowledge.
Mac also noted how the "aliens" seem to spend a hell of a lot time ensuring they are seen: whether its taking "soil-samples" at the side of the road; equipping their craft with bright, flashing lights; or hammering home the point to the abductees that they are from this planet, from that star-system, or from some far off galaxy. Just about anywhere aside from right here, in fact.
Roswell comes into the equation, too: and in ingenious fashion. Those who do not adhere to the extraterrestrial hypothesis for Roswell point to the fact that many of the witness descriptions of what was found at Roswell, are collectively suggestive of some form of large balloon-type structure having come down at the Foster Ranch, Lincoln County, NM on that fateful day in the summer of 1947.
The possibility that ET would be flying around New Mexico in a balloon is absurd. But, as Mac notes, a race of impoverished, underground-dwellers, highly worried by the sudden influx of military activity in New Mexico (White Sands, Los Alamos etc), just might employ the use of an advance balloon-type vehicle to secretly scope out the area late at night.
Perhaps, when elements of the U.S. military came across the debris, they really did assume it was balloon-borne material and probably of American origin. Until, maybe, they stumbled across something else amid the debris, too...
The Cryptoterrestrials continues in a similar vein; to the extent that we are left with a stark and surreal image of a very ancient - and very strange - race of beings who may once have been the masters of this planet; who were sidelined thousands of years ago; and who are now - under cover of darkness and while the cities sleep - forced to grudgingly surface from their darkened lairs and interact with the very things they fear (and perhaps even hate and despise) most of all: us.
Survival is the name of their game. And deception is the means by which it is being cunningly achieved.
Whether you agree with Mac's theorizing or not, The Cryptoterrestrials is a book that is expertly and beautifully written. It challenges the reader to throw out old, rigid views. It represents the careful studies of a man who knew he was going out on a limb - but who, thankfully, didn't give a damn about appeasing the UFO research community in fawning style. And, for me, it truly is a Messengers of Deception for the 21st Century and for Generation-Next.

Abstract-Scientific opinion has generally followed public opinion in the
belief that unidentified flying objects either do not exist (the "natural phenomena
hypothesis") or, if they do, must represent evidence of a visitation
by some advanced race of space travellers (the extraterrestrial hypothesis or
"ETH"). It is the view of the author that research on UFOs need not be
restricted to these two alternatives. On the contrary, the accumulated data
base exhibits several patterns tending to indicate that UFOs are real, represent
a previously unrecognized phenomenon, and that the facts do not
support the common concept of "space visitors." Five specific arguments
articulated here contradict the ETH: (1) unexplained close encounters are
far more numerous than required for any physical survey of the earth; (2)
the humanoid body structure of the alleged "aliens" is not likely to have
originated on another planet and is not biologically adapted to space travel;
(3) the reported behavior in thousands of abduction reports contradicts the
hypothesis of genetic or scientific experimentation on humans by an advanced
race; (4) the extension of the phenomenon throughout recorded
human history demonstrates that UFOs are not a contemporary phenomenon;
and (5) the apparent ability of UFOs to manipulate space and time
suggests radically different and richer alternatives, three of which are proposed
in outline form as a conclusion to this paper.

El futuro del Internet
En todo el mundo los medios tradicionales de comunicación (radio, tv y prensa) ven con estupor como las redes sociales, podcast y blogs los han desplazado en las preferencias del público para informarse.
Los medios alternativos son: ciudadanos, independientes y sin censura.
Debido a esto, la mayoría de los gobiernos han "prendido" luces de alarma por el despertar de conciencias que esto ha significado.
Hace pocos dias Zbigniew Brzezinski declaró que debido a esto se les ha dificultado la implantación del Nuevo Orden Mundial. La gente está ya informada de las verdaderas intenciones tras el cabildeo del Cambio Climático de Origen Humano, o la Alerta de la Influencia Humana.
Pero ellos ya planean que hacer al respecto:
Se va a regular el uso de internet, desaparecen las páginas personales, uno solo va a tener el uso de un subdominio, similar a los canales en youtube (que cuando quiere se lo borra a uno a la menor excusa)
El Internet se va a volver un "Cablevisión": vamos a tener una caja de acceso, como el decodificador de cable, que nos va a dar acceso a unos cuantos cientos de dominios, los que el gobierno considere adecuados para nosotros y al mismo tiempo esta caja va a registrar y reportar a servidores toda nuestra actividad en línea.
Esto ya funciona en China y se está tratando de implementar en Australia y ya se discute en EEUU.
También se va a crear un registro de usuarios de internet y aquella persona que desea publicar en la red va a necesitar de una licencia de periodismo en línea otorgada por el Gobierno.
Desde luego, esto es en nombre de "nuestra seguridad" ya ven que peligrosos son los terroristas de Al CIAeda (o los narcos)
Y aquí en México ya se dió el primer paso con el RENAUT.

TVA Coal Ash - Before and After
TVA coal ash disaster on December 22, 2008. A TVA coal ash containment "pond" collapsed in Harriman, TN spilling a reported 1 BILLION gallons of toxic waste into an unsuspecting residential neighborhood. This is the largest toxic coal ash spill in United States history.
My parents, my sister, friends and family, they've all been devasted.
I made this video for my parents, their neighbors and their attorney to show what life was like on the river before the TVA disaster and after. What was once a beautiful oasis is now a disgusting toxic ashtray.
I emailed the video to my parents on Monday night. Then, I went upstairs to watch a little tv and went to bed. By the time I woke the next morning, the video I had e-mailed to my parents had been viewed over 700 times. I had 84 e-mails in my inbox and a message from Erin Brockovich.
That's the power of the internet, baby.
What I read and hear from TVA officials is discouraging. The aftermath of this disaster is significant and long-reaching. It's apparent that some of the folks at TVA just don't 'get it.'
The water is not "okay" and the disaster wasn't just "bad luck" and, no, the EPA is not getting readings of high arsenic levels due to the measurements they use. In fact, the EPA is getting readings of high arsenic levels because there's arsenic. At high levels. In the water.
The people of this community need solutions, not rhetoric. They need action, not action plans with no deadline. And, obviously, TVA needs oversight, not deference.

No ha sido un buen mes para el ex vicepresidente y Nobel de la Paz Al Gore: a pocas semanas de la separación de su mujer tras 40 años de matrimonio, se ve inmerso en un posible escándalo sexual. La policía ha reabierto una investigación contra él por abuso sexual a una masajista.
Sensato, correcto y fiel. Hasta hace poco, se creía que Gore era lo contrario de Bill Clinton: quizá menos interesante que el ex presidente, quizá un poco demasiado pulcro, pero siempre sólido y fiable. Escándalos como el que sacudió a su superior en la Casa Blanca parecían impensables en el caso de Gore. Pero de repente todo ha cambiado.
Desde la semana pasada circula en los medios una acusación de hace cuatro años por parte de una masajista contra el premiado protector del medio ambiente, desatada por unas declaraciones de la masajista al sensacionalista, pero no siempre errado National Enquirer . Y ahora la policía decidió reabrir la investigación, que ya había sido archivada por falta de pruebas.
Según la acusación, Al Gore intentó mantener relaciones sexuales con la masajista Molly Hagerty la noche del 24 de octubre del 2006 en una suite de un hotel de Portland (Oregón). Las autoridades no vieron entonces pruebas suficientes y archivaron el caso, entre otros motivos porque la mujer no se mostró especialmente cooperativa y se negó a declarar ante la policía.
Pero en el 2009, Molly, que hoy tiene 54 años, volvió a recurrir a las autoridades con una declaración por escrito. En ella sostiene que la manoseó, la besó y actuó como un «perro en celo». Pero de nuevo se dijo que no había suficientes pruebas para respaldar sus acusaciones. Pero repentinamente, el miércoles la policía reabrió el caso, sin explicar por qué. Una portavoz de Gore, de 62 años, tildó de difamatorias y falsas, a la vez que inventadas las acusaciones. Pero las especulaciones ya están abiertas: ¿el fin del matrimonio de Al Gore tuvo algo que ver con el caso? ¿Quizá el ex candidato a la presidencia no era tan fiel como todos pensaban?

El mundo se preocupa por el derrame en el Golfo, pero en Nigeria es peor

El delta de Níger es uno de los lugares más contaminados en el planeta, al haber sido víctima de más de 6,800 derrames de petróleo, lo que representa entre 9 y 13 millones de barriles de petróleo que han llegado a las aguas, denuncias diferentes grupos activistas.
Los derrames han ocurrido en los últimos 50 años, desde que la explotación de crudo en la zona inició, aunque este desastre ambiental, nunca ha recibido la atención que ahora tiene la catástrofe en el Golfo de México.
"El mundo entero está temblando e incluso el presidente de Estados Unidos ha hecho visitas a la zona. Estados Unidos impondrá medidas serias para evitar que algo así vuelva a pasar", dijo Ken Tebe, un ambientalista local.
"Es curioso porque nosotros hemos estado lidiando con esto por 50 años. Apenas escuché que BP pagaría 20,000 millones de dólares por los daños. ¿Cuándo podremos esperar algo así para la delta del Níger?", preguntó Tebe.
Estados Unidos importa aproximadamente 8% del petróleo que consume de Nigeria. Esto es casi la mitad de la producción total del hidrocarburo en el país, lo que lo ubica como el quinto exportador más importante para el gobierno estadounidense.
Tebe, como otros activistas, concentra su energía y enojo contra su propio gobierno y la compañía petrolera a la que acusa de ser negligente en la región, pero siente que Estados Unidos, como un gran consumidor de petróleo de Nigeria, también tiene cierta responsabilidad.
"Está muy muy mal porque Nigeria es el quinto exportador más importante de petróleo para Estados Unidos y el problema existe desde hace 50 años con un poco o casi nada de atención y preocupación del gobierno estadounidense (…)".
De acuerdo con Amnistía Internacional, las personas que viven en la delta de Níger han experimentado cada año y durante la última década, derrames petroleros similares al de Exxon Valdez.
En su reporte Petróleo, Contaminación y Pobreza, de junio de 2009, Amnistía dijo que expertos ambientales y en hidrocarburos estimaban que entre nueve y trece millones de barriles se han filtrado en las últimas cinco décadas. También se citó que Naciones Unidas calcula que en la región ha habido más de 6,800 derrames entre 1976 y 2001.
Compañías petroleras que operan en la delta del Níger aseguran que las estimaciones son exageradas. Mutiu Sunmonu, el director administrativo de Shell Nigeria, dijo a CNN que la industria está comprometida a que después de un derrame "se restaure el ambiente".
En la década de 1990, Shell fue forzada a frenar sus operaciones en Ogoniland después de diversas protestas contra la poca inversión y el daño ambiental. Después, un tribunal nigeriano culpó al activista Ken Saro-Wiwa de complicidad en el asesinato de cuatro jefes ogoni.
El gobierno lo ejecutó junto con otros cuatro activistas, lo que fue condenado a nivel internacional.
Shell niega que haya anomalías en el caso y también rechaza los cargos que se imputan por no respetar los derechos humanos en la delta.
Esta era la única compañía operando en Ogoniland, y no se ha explotado más petróleo desde entonces, sin embargo, los lugareños siguen quejándose del petróleo que se derrama en el laberinto de tuberías que hay en sus tierras.
CNN tomó un bote para pasear por las aguas del delta en Ogoniland, comenzó a llover y las gotas de lluvia comenzaron a golpear una capa de aceite espeso que se lograba ver en el río.
Se puede ver una capa de aceite sobre los ríos, pero también como los manglares se tiñen de negro, incluso no hay ningún pescador en la zona.
Los 700,000 kilómetros cuadrados de la delta del Níger representan uno de los humedales más importante del mundo, en donde habitan 31 millones de personas, de los cuales, según datos del Programa de Desarrollo de la ONU, el 60% dependen del medio ambiente para su subsistencia.
Chevron, Agip y ExxonMobil son otras compañías que operan en la zona del Delta, pero sólo Shell hace reportes regulares sobre sus operaciones.
Shell asegura que el 90% de los derrames son provocados por militantes y ladrones que intentan robar crudo de las tuberías y pipas, y además, confirma la empresa, los lugareños obstaculizan el acceso a las tuberías rotas, hasta que las petroleras paguen una cuota.
El director administrativo de Shell dijo a CNN que su empresa no puede resolver los problemas en el Delta. "95% de nuestros ingresos, después de impuestos y costos, regresan al gobierno".
Las otras empresas petroleras también argumentan que el gobierno nigeriano es responsable de asegurar que en el delta haya inversión, seguridad y presión sobre los negocios privados.
En todas esas áreas el gobierno ha fallado en la lucha contra la pobreza y el conflicto en torno del delta de Níger.
"Incluso si llevamos todos nuestros ingresos al Delta, en desarrollo e infraestructura, seguiría habiendo un derrame hacía el océano", dijo Sunmonu.
Sin embargo, al presionar en que las compañías petroleras son legalmente responsables de limpiar los derramen de petróleo, Sunmonu insistió: "Nosotros limpiaremos el ambiente independientemente del costo".
Reportes ambientales calculan que el costo por el daño asciende a decenas de miles de millones de dólares.
"Lo cierto es que en el delta de Níger tenemos derrames petroleros importantes que por más de 30 años no se han limpiado", dijo el activista Tebe.
Si Estados Unidos reduce su producción de petróleo por el derrame en el Golfo de México, ejercerá más presión en lugares como Nigeria.
"Habrá más bloqueos para que podamos cumplir con la cuota que enviamos a Estados Unidos. Eso significa que habrá un incremento de los derrames de petróleo, de gas y los recursos y sobre todo el conflicto aumentará", indicó el activista.
